Description

With over 50 years of manufacturing experience, a commitment to OE form, fit and function, and unparalleled technical support, Edelmann is your best choice for power steering replacement hose and parts. Edelmann OE quality power steering hoses and components are crafted from long-lasting, high-performing materials that ensure durability under the harshest conditions on the road. That commitment to OE form, fit, and function ensures ease of installation, correct hose/tube routing and leak free performance. Hose construction withstands internal oil temperatures of up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring component integrity in high-heat, high-stress operating environments. High-tensile strength braided fabric helps Edelmann pressure hoses withstand pulsation pressures up to 1,500 PSI and bursting pressures that exceed 6,000 PSI. Edelmann power steering pressure hose covers are highly resistant to oil, heat and ozone which cause ordinary assemblies to fail prematurely. Flared ferrule ends prevent pinching or cutting of the hose at tight bend locations. Metal tubing is coated with a Zinc-Aluminum Alloy, with an Aluminum-Rich Epoxy topcoat, and the couplings and fittings are zinc-plated for rust and corrosion protection. If required for the specific application, mounting brackets, heat shields and convolute tube sheathing (to protect hose) are included. When replacing a failed hose, whether from leaking, bursting, hardening/brittleness, or sponginess, choose the Edelmann hose for your application to ensure a durable replacement that will give you peace of mind as you travel down the road.

Not much to say about auto parts typically. All you can usually say is that they either fit or they don't and they either work or they don't. Well this part works. It connects the power steering pump to the steering rack. It doesn't leak, at least not yet. As to fit - that is a different story. This hose does fit, it is in place in the car. However it was a tremendous pain to get it to fit. First of all it is extremely difficult to get to the fittings to remove and replace this hose to begin with. Good ole Audi engineers do not apparently consider maintenance access when designing their vehicles. You have to remove many completely unrelated items just to get access to the fittings that need to be removed to take this hose off and re-install the new one. The space to work in is minimal and everything has to line up just right and be at just the right angle for the hose to go on properly. Well this hose manufacturer apparently does not really consider that. The hose I purchased had the end of the hose that connects to the steering rack about 15 degrees rotation different than the factory hose. This made it nearly impossible to twist the hose at the correct angle to match the rack mating surface to the hose end banjo fitting surface. I finally did get the end installed on the steering rack and then found that because the angle was wrong, the hose was twisted when connecting the metal tubing to the mounting brackets. The metal portion of the hose is connected to several brackets and keeps the hose from rattling or rubbing. However in addition to the hose end being twisted at a different angle, the end that goes on the power steering pump had the tubing bent slightly differently which caused that end to also not be aligned the same as the original hose and it made installation at the pump a pain also. Not as bad as on the rack but still a pain. And in addition the hose was now bowed since it was twisted a bit and not at the right angle. Not typically a big deal, but this caused the hose to bow out and dip below the level of the motor and be closer to the ground and susceptible to catching items the car passed over. That would be the case without the lower engine cover installed. Audi TTs have a lower cover that covers the bottom of the engine, transmission, etc. But with this cover installed, now the hose rubs on the cover and over time could potentially wear a hole in the rubber hose because it is bowed due to the wrong angle of bends on the Power steering pump end. This hose is expensive enough to not have to deal with this. The hose from the dealer is more expensive and although it is more I would recommend it over this one. I would pay the extra money from the dealer if I had it to do over again. Hopefully this one will last long enough so that I don't have to replace it again anytime soon.
